Button Canon
Button Canons are types that you won't see that often. A few of the bells at Worcester Cathedral have buttons but you will mostly find them on Steel Bells.
On my Bell investigations, I haven't come across a bell with a one yet. Post Sussex Examples which had this type were the old Steel bells at Hastings, St Clement.
This Canon gets it's name from it's design. Similar to a Doncaster Head, they have four bars of metal 90* from each other, the only difference is is that they don't have a hole in them to accept a metal strap.
Instead, there is a circular plate of metal on top of the 4 bars which covers them. In each of the 4 corners between the bars is a hole. This is where it gets the name from as it resembles the shape and appearance of a button.
The bells still have straps but the ends are bolted through the 4 holes to connect it to the headstock.
In addition to the 4 holes, there's also a larger hole in the center for the clapper.
