The clock, presumably by Thwaites & Reed, was installed in the church in 1808, arranged by Thomas Wilmshurst of East Street, Chichester.
A report in the Antiquarian Horology Journal by T. Dudley, 1972, states that the clock had not chimed in living memory, and since the strike train is currently not in the clock at all, it begs the question if it ever had it in the first place.
T. Dudley presumes that the maker had issues with the strike train, and removed it to work on in the workshop, and he witnesses seeing the lifting pieces; winding barrel, and weight near the clock on his visit.
Dudley helped free up the motion work behind the dial, and repaired other components.
The clock has not been put back into working order, and now resides in the Novium Museum store rooms. The dial, as shown below, has fractured.
Today, Chichester, St Pancras still has a clock, but the hands are driven by an electric motor.
