Haywards Heath, Church of the PresentationThe church of the presentation has a single bell, hung in a Timber shelter between brackets.
The church was built in 1882 as a temporary iron church, and required an extension 4 years later. In 1897, the population was big enough for a permanent brick building to be built. It had the capacity of 170, and open in August of that year. |

1 Bell
When the permanent church was built John Warner & Sons, supplied a singe bell, bolted to a cast iron headstock by a peg canon. Around the soundbow is a short inscription with the founders name and date. It was cast in a sound mould with sans serif letter stamps pressed into the cope.
The headstock is painted black and swings on ball bearings by an iron lever. There are patches of wear on both sides of the bell, and the inscription is facing towards the building. This could suggest that the bell has been turned 180 degrees since it was hung. The fittings are also in a superb condition.
A 12 rung ladder is required to access the bell in the shelter - a small telescopic ladder will do.
