The original clock dated 1821 was made by John Moore of Clerkenwell, and had a going and strike train. They also supplied a 3' 6" dial
During the restoration of 1889 - 1890, the clock was no doubt replaced by the present 3 train clock by W. H. Bailey & Co, enabling the Gillett bells to announce the quarters, and the Mears bell the Hour.
In 1990, the clock was restored by Gillett & Johnston Clocks Ltd by engineer Jack Nicolls.
It was converted to automatic winding, and the clock chiming apparatus was repaired.
Councillor Mrs Barbara Palmer had the honour of starting the pendulum on Wednesday 23rd May 1990.
The clock itself is housed in a shed like structure above the roof.
