Lucas J Owen
Lucas learned to ring at St Mary, Walthamstow (10, 17-1-1 Eb) in 2014, aged 8. He still rings at St Mary's regularly, and as Steeple Keeper, takes pride in maintaining the bells there. Lucas lives in Chingford - an area sadly deprived of any Full-Circle bells - but rings regularly in neighbouring areas such as Walthamstow, Waltham Abbey, Loughton, Woodford, Chigwell, and occasionally at Brentwood, West Ham and Leyton and is a loyal member of the Essex Association of Change Ringers.
In 2016, the bells at St Mary's Walthamstow were re-hung on new fittings after not having any major work since 1896. This really kickstarted Lucas's love for the mechanical side of ringing, getting to see how it all went together on a full-size scale, helping to take the old installation apart and assemble the new fittings.
He is keen on inspecting and documenting sets of bells which are not very well known about, and has visited lots in his area with aims to visit many more in the coming years.
Lucas and Kye got in touch in April 2020 - just as lockdown had kicked off, both sharing the same frustration about it all and just wanted to be back ringing again. Now that ringing is back in action, they enjoy ringing and doing maintenance at each other's towers, and look forward to many more quarter peals and peals to come!
