1 Bell, 8-2-19 in A
In 1958, the bell from Brighton, St Margaret's was recast by Mears & Stainbank and supplied here. St Margaret's was later demolished the following year.
The bell is tucked up high in the headstock making it slow-turning. It has a counterweighted clapper to match the speed of the bell. Counterweighted clapper are commonly found on very large bourdon bells as it puts the clapper on the right side.
The inscription was made using 1" & 0.5" letters, stamped into the cope.
On one side of the waist is a dedication to the recasting of the bell, and the founders name on the other.
It was cast without canons and bolted to the headstock.
It is Simpson tuned to the key of A, featuring a quint 3/4 of a semitone sharp.
The frame is made of steel and is classes as a pedestal type.
The church became redundant in 2006.
After many internal changes, including the false ceiling in the ringing room, it was taken over by a new congregation under the name of Fountain Center.
The rope is now cut preventing the bell from ringing, though there is great interest to get it going again.
Access to the belfry is by a vertical ladder in the NE side of the tower.
1 bell in great condition.
