Stone Cross, St LukeStone Cross has a single bell, hung dead on brackets on the west wall. The church was designed by Alfred. J. Hodgeman between 1924 - 1925. Hodgeman was an architect who was born and raised in Australia. He came to England with the Australian army in 1914, and continued his architectural practices here in England after the war. He designed hospitals, houses and churches. In the middle of the church is a lantern tower which possesses no purpose but to create vertical emphasis.

1 Bell, 1-3-26 in G
In 1924, Gillett & Johnston supplied a single bell to Stone Cross as a memorial to Charles William Owen.
The bell is inscribed using Gillett's dotted letter stamps, with a dedication to Charles on the waist.
It was originally hung for swing chime, but in 1994, the bell was rehung for stationary chiming. The Sussex Bell Restoration Fund gave a grant of £150 towards the cost of repair.
At the same time, the bell was quarter turned to present a new surface for the clapper to strike. Patches of wear can be seen at 90 degrees each side of the current wear patch, further showing it was hung for swing chime.
The bell is accessed using around a 30-rung ladder, and is clocked using a small red, white, and blue sallied rope.
1 bell in great condition in 2021.
