About the Bells
4 Clock Bells, in G ( Tuning 2-4,7 of 8)
Ex. Inf. L Bent, Jan 2022: Also chimed by an Ellacombe Apparatus, first floor of tower. Tower accessed from the gallery, through a narrow doorway behind the organ. The ‘ringing chamber’ is a small tall room behind the organ. Clock chamber accessed by a 25 rung vertical ladder. Belfry accessed by first climbing up onto a platform above the clock case, then climbing out of a window onto the church roof, climbing up a ladder to the apex of the roof and then entering the belfry through one of the arches.
The 4 bells are hung dead on two levels, bells 2 & 3 on the higher level and bells 1 & 4 on the lower level. There is very little space under the tenor. Bells 1-3 have one clock hammer each, whereas the tenor has 3 clock hammers. All bells have Ellacombe chiming hammers.
