Z.1 Frame
The Z.1 or Pickford 8.3.A.h is the more common cast Iron frame truss found. It simply features a Normal Z truss but with a large hole spanning the length of the braces. Usually at the end of each bell pit, there is cross bracing to support the frame. The holes in the cross bracing is similar to the same reason why metal clock gears have holes in them. This is so they can save metal for other cast iron frames.
