Brace ties

Brace ties were used to stabilise bell frames by means of a long wooden plank spanning all the braces. These frames were usually set in a straight line, as in the 3.1 layout. Grooves were cut into the brace ties, and often into the braces themselves, so that the ties could be slotted securely into place.
