West Green, St Peter

This bell originally came from a daughter church of Ifield on the other side of the road from where St Peters is now.
This church was made of red brick and had a small bell turret, taken down around 1960. The church was built in 1880, and due to the rising cost of maintenance, they decided to build another church in 1892. The bell from the red brick church was later transferred to St Peter shortly after it was built.

1 Bell, 0-3-12 cwt
The bell was cast by Gillett, Bland & Co on July 14th, 1880 and most likely had a Doncaster canon.
Since then, the canon has been removed, and a wooden pad has been fitted between the bell and headstock to avoid contamination. Its serial number is 402.
The short inscription was made using small Gothic capitals, and features the foundry name and date.
It is hung on ball bearings, and chimed by an iron lever using a green sallied rope.
The bell is currently unringable due to an accident resulting in the clapper flying out many years ago.
There are plans to restore the bell within the next few years by either Whites of Appleton or O'Shea Engineering.

Elphick lists 30 & 35-rung ladders are required to access to the bell.
