About the Bell

1 Bell
Eastbourne, St George had a single bell hung in a small tower with a low spire. This church was built in the middle of Dacre Road and unfortunately, most of the information on this church has been lost, including photographs. The land for the church was given in 1892, though it was not consecrated until 1916. Therefore the church was possibly built up in stages. 100

In 1900, John Warner & Sons of Spitalfield cast a bell measuring 13.88” in diameter. It was hung in a B frame and chimed by a lever. A 24-rung ladder was required to reach the bell cote. 101
Being the size it is and also the vast amount of Warner bells with this, it is wise to suggest the inscription was around the soundbow.
It had the simple inscription of:
J . WARNER & SONS LṬḌ LONDON 1900
The bell may have been cast with a peg argent.
The fate of the bell is unknown.
