About the Bell

1 Bell
St Andrew's had a single bell hung in a SE facing tower on Queens Road.
The church was built in 1869 by Habershon and Brook, and has a disproportionately small belfry under a stone spire.

John Warner & Sons supplied a single bell inscribed
CAST BY JOHN WARNER & SONS LONDON
around the inscription band, with the royal arms and

on the waist.
They didn't inscribe the date on it, although it was probably cast around 1869-1870.
During Elphick's visit of August 1951, he states that the bell was covered with pigeon guano and that it was hung in a wooden Z frame.

The church was demolished in 1970 as it became unsafe. Some of the old stonework was saved and are now at the Hastings museum.
