SCACR Striking Competition TrophyIn 1887, the Sussex County Association of Change Ringers were presented with a new trophy for their Annual Striking competitions. The competitions were established by George F Attree, founder of the SCACR, as a way to encourage towers to progress in method ringing. However, many criticisms were made in Bell News, stating it was peal ringing for the sake of peal ringing. The trophy was awarded to the tower who rang the most peals in that year.

1 Bell, in A
The trophy was cast and presented by John Warner & Sons in 1887. The bell is made of brass and has an engraved inscription filled with wax. It was cast with a Doncaster canon and hung on wooden fittings in a timber 6.A frame.
It was made with a high level of detail, right down to the structure of the plain bearings. The bell is pitched by its hum and therefore rings the note A.
The first tower to win the trophy in 1887 was Steyning, which rang a total of 19 peals under the leadership of their conductor, Charles Tyler - 13 of which were in December! The following year, it was won by the Warnham band with 23 peals scored, followed by Angmering for the next two years.
In March 2025, the trophy was relocated to Chichester Cathedral, where it is now on display in the ringing room. Prior to this, it was in the careful hands of the former Master of the SCACR, Rob Lane.
