Southwater, Holy Innocents

Southwater has a single bell hung at the west end in a timber turret, capped with a cedar shingled spire.
The church was build in 1848 by the architect Mr W Harrison from London and builder Mr Carruther from Reigate. It was consecrated 2 years later.

1 Bell, in C#
The bell was cast by Charles & George Mears in 1850,
It is hung for swing chime and rung using a solid built up half wheel. Through a pair of binoculars, we can see that the bell is strapped to a wooden headstock by the means of a conventional canon.
Around the inscription band is the founders name and date, made by pressing letter stamps into the cope.

It swings from East to west in a wooden B frame, and is chimed from the ground floor by a rope.
The rope came from Horsham, St Mary's and was spliced onto the old rope.

Access to the belfry is through a door in the side of the turret, requiring a 44 rung ladder.
