Sussex Lodge, Clock Turret

This small lodge in Sussex was probably built around 1894, and although data on the clock and bell are available, the precise location, other than being in West Sussex, is not. The bell was housed in a small white turret at the end of the roof.

About the Bell

1 Bell, 1-0-1cwt
In July 1894, Gillett & Johnston cast a single bell, numbered 1458 (possibly inscribed on the crown), which was supplied to the clockmaker William Webster of 45 London Road on November 4th, 1895. It was cast with the squat Doncaster canon and bore an inscription on the waist. Judging by its characteristics, it may have even been a stock bell.
It was undoubtedly hung dead and struck by a clock hammer.

Sometime before November 2024, the clock, dials, and bell were sold by the UKAA for £850. Their present fate is unknown, though fortunately photographs of them survive.
