Mannings Heath, The Good Shepherd

Mannings Heath has a single bell, hung in a west facing turret.
The church dates back to 1881, and was built by Miss Augusta Bigg as a memorial to her brother, the architect possibly being L. Ridge.
At the west end is a small timber turret, with a tiled spire, containing a wooden B frame fit for one bell.

2 Bells, in E   ( Tuning 1,5 of 5)
Gossops Green has 2 bells hung dead in an East facing tower. The tower and church was built in 1961 by Thomas Francis Ford. T F Ford were British architects who actually won the British architect award. The company was active up until 1970 and produced a number of church building in their time with Gossops green being one of them. Thomas F Ford
In 1961, an order for 2 bells was put in place for their newly built tower.
The tower houses two bells fixed to wooden beams in tall brick tower. The treble is hung below and the tenor above. The bells are hung in an A frame. The inscription for the treble is clear and easy to read and can be seen with the naked eye. However, the tenor is covered in bird mess and is practically invisible.

The tenor was cast in 1961 by the London foundry Mears & Stainbank. The tenor was sand casted and an approx weight of 4cwt has been given by the Whitechapel tuning records. The treble also cast by Mears was cast 3 years later in 1964.
They both feature (Plate, LVI,d) on their waists along with the date and their makers name.

The two bells appear to have been quarter turned as points of wear 90 degrees from the current wear.

Inside the church is a small broom cupboard which has the two small red, white and blue sallied ropes. The ropes go up a very long draft and round a pulley fixed to the tower. The ropes convert to blue rope about halfway up the tower. Each rope is connected to the bell by the clapper and the bell is the clocked similar to Tilgate, Holy Trinity.

The treble rings in the key of B and tenor rings in E forming a Major 5th. The clapper on the tenor is one that looks like it came from a Carillon where as the treble appears to be a normal one you find on most bells.
2 bells in good condition 2021.
